How a Guy Who Knows Nothing About Makeup Built a Foundation Brand

Spoiler: It involved a factory that lied to us, a Reddit mob, a lawsuit, and my 12-year-old telling me he'll take over "when I die."

Hi. I'm Rachad. I'm a 38-year-old dad from Canada. I have two boys, a wife who came here from Lebanon, and absolutely zero business wearing makeup.

And yet, here I am — running a foundation company.

If you're wondering how that happened, trust me, so am I. Let me explain.

First, Let's Address the Elephant in the Room

Yes, I'm a guy selling makeup to women over 45.

No, I don't wear foundation. I couldn't tell you the difference between "dewy" and "matte" until about a year ago. I had to Google what "oxidizing" meant when a customer complained about it.

But here's what I DO know: how to find a product that solves a real problem, how to listen to customers, and how to not give up when everything goes sideways.

All three of those skills got tested. Hard.

🤦 About That Name...

You're probably wondering what "Pripedi" means. Is it French? Italian? Some ancient beauty secret?

Nope. It's a typo.

I was trying to type "Pree Pedicure" for a completely different business idea. I fat-fingered it, bought the domain anyway, and here we are. Our company is literally named after a spelling mistake.

We're not a Fortune 500. We're a family that figured it out as we went.

The Real Product Testers

We don't pay influencers. We don't do sponsorships. Our product testers are:

My sister Noha — a customs agent in her mid-40s who wears our foundation daily. She's on the darker side of Arabic skin tones, so if it works for her, we know the formula adapts properly. She once did a live video for us and generated $1,000 in sales in ONE HOUR.

Her exact words: "It's very light — makes me feel like I'm not wearing anything, but it makes my whole face one color."

My mom's coworkers at Canadian Tire — we gave them all free bottles. Real working Canadian women, not influencers. They're the ones who told us what needed to change.

My sister-in-law — who's obsessed with our new formula and bottle design.

If it doesn't work for real women with real jobs and real lives, we don't sell it. Period.

The Honest (Messy) Origin Story

Before Pripedi, I ran a fashion brand called Maleemporio. Did $200k in our first year selling clothes for sales reps. Sold it in August 2024 to a family in Turkey who took over the relationships we built.

Then I went hunting for the next thing.

September 2024

The Search Begins

Spent 3 months testing different products and industries. Studied everything. By November, we were almost out of cash.

November 2024

Found the Opportunity

Discovered a US brand selling color-adapting foundation — but only on TikTok, mostly in Spanish. Saw a gap. Started learning everything about makeup. Watched tutorials. Studied why women wear foundation. Felt ridiculous. Kept going.

Late 2024

Trump Tariffs & A Decision

When Trump threatened Canada with tariffs, I made a decision: I'm building a CANADIAN company. For Canadian women. No matter what.

Early 2025

The Factory Disaster

Our first factory, KOEC, lied to us. Sent horrible product. Half our shipments from China never arrived. We had 300-400 orders a day and couldn't fulfill them. It was chaos.

January 2025

The SPF Problem

Discovered our formula had no SPF despite being told it did. Confronted the factory. Got more lies. Sued them. Won.

2025

The Reddit Attack

A Reddit post tore us apart. People said we weren't a "real Canadian company" because we manufacture in China. (So does Apple, but okay.) We responded. Created a refund form. Made it right with every single customer.

Mid 2025

Starting Over — The Right Way

Found a proper factory that follows Canadian and American regulations. Built a new formula from scratch. That's how L'Originale was born. Sold 15,000+ bottles.

2026

Listening & Improving

Customers loved the formula but had complaints about the pump, the cap, and coverage. We listened. Discontinued L'Originale. Launched our MATTE foundation — same great formula, better everything else.

🙋 Yes, We Made Mistakes

We got taken advantage of by a factory. We had shipping disasters. We got roasted on Reddit. We launched a product that needed improvements.

But we never hid. We answered every email. We refunded every unhappy customer. We fixed what was broken.

That's the difference between a corporation and a family business. We actually give a damn.

Why We Do This

Every year, Pripedi donates to autism programs. Not because it's good marketing — because my son is autistic, and these programs matter to our family.

Building this company isn't just about selling foundation. It's about proving that a small Canadian family can compete with the big brands. That you don't need a massive corporation to make a product that actually works.

My dream? Get Pripedi to $5 million in sales. Get it into retail stores across Canada. Prove that Canadian companies can represent this country in the beauty market.

Will I sell one day? Maybe. But right now, I'm enjoying the challenge. And I'm just getting started.

🇨🇦 About "Made in Canada"

Our formula isn't manufactured in Canada — we tried, but no factory could deliver the volume we needed in a reasonable timeframe. Most wanted 6 months for 5,000 bottles.

But everyone who works for Pripedi is Canadian. Every dollar we pay in salaries stays in Canada. Every customer we serve is Canadian. We're building something here, for here.

That's what being a Canadian company means to us.

Hey Wanda — I know you've been scammed before. I know you've tried foundations that promised everything and delivered nothing. Give us a chance. Our product was made with you in mind. It's light. It blends. You don't have to guess your shade. Pump, rub, enjoy — that's it.

And if you don't like it? That's okay. Full refund. No questions.
